Information we collect
Information you provide
If you use the contact form, we collect your name, email address, any optional subject you enter, and the contents of your message. We use this information to read, route, and respond to your inquiry, maintain appropriate correspondence records, prevent abuse, and protect the website.
We do not currently operate an email-marketing list or intentionally send promotional email. If we add a newsletter or other marketing program, this policy and the relevant sign-up notice will be updated before that processing begins.
Information collected automatically
When you visit the website, our hosting, security, WordPress, and analytics systems may process technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, approximate location, timestamps, request and error logs, and cookie or consent identifiers. We use this information to deliver the site, keep it secure, diagnose problems, understand site performance, and—where required and only after consent—measure audience activity.
Contact form, spam prevention, and email delivery
Our contact form is provided through WPForms. It uses automated anti-spam measures, including submission timing and other technical signals, to distinguish legitimate messages from automated abuse. We do not currently use Google reCAPTCHA or Akismet on this contact form.
Contact-form notifications are sent through an authenticated Kitchen Affliction mailbox hosted by NameHero. Messages are delivered to our Gmail inbox so that we can respond. NameHero and Google may therefore process message routing information and the contents of correspondence as service providers under their own terms and privacy practices.
GoSMTP records email-delivery logs for troubleshooting. These logs may include the sender, recipient, source, email provider, delivery status, timestamps, and related technical or error information. GoSMTP logs are configured for automatic deletion after 30 days. Contact correspondence kept in our mailbox is retained only as long as reasonably necessary to respond, maintain appropriate administrative records, resolve disputes, or meet legal obligations, and is then deleted or anonymized.
Cookies and consent choices
We use CookieYes to display and manage the cookie-consent banner. The available categories are Necessary and Analytics. Necessary technologies support functions such as security, consent preference storage, and basic website operation. They cannot be switched off through the banner because the site cannot provide these functions reliably without them.
Analytics technologies are optional. Google Site Kit is configured with Google Consent Mode so that your Analytics choice is communicated to Google. Analytics storage is denied by default where consent is required and is enabled only after you choose to accept Analytics. Depending on Google’s Consent Mode implementation, Google may receive limited cookieless measurement signals when Analytics storage is denied; Analytics cookies are not read or written in that denied state.
You can accept, reject, or customize optional cookies through the banner. You may later change or withdraw your choice at any time by selecting “Cookie Settings” in the website footer. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that occurred lawfully before withdrawal. You can also delete or block cookies through your browser, although doing so may affect website functionality.
Google Analytics and Search Console
With your consent where required, Google Analytics helps us understand information such as visitor numbers, session activity, approximate geography, device and browser information, and the pages people use. Google Analytics may use first-party identifiers such as the _ga cookie when Analytics storage is granted. We use these reports to improve content and website performance, not to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about individual visitors.
Google Search Console provides site owners with search-performance, indexing, and technical reports. It does not add a visitor-facing marketing form to this website, but Google may process information about interactions with Google Search and the site under Google’s own privacy terms.
Affiliate links and third-party websites
Kitchen Affliction participates in the Amazon affiliate program. Some recipe or article links may take you to Amazon. We may earn a commission if you make a qualifying purchase, at no additional cost to you. Clicking an affiliate link sends you to a third-party website; Amazon may receive information contained in the link and may use cookies or similar technologies under its own privacy policy. We do not receive your full payment-card details from Amazon.
The website may also link to or embed material from social networks, video platforms, or other websites. Embedded content can behave as though you visited the third-party site directly and may collect data, set cookies, or track interactions, particularly if you are logged in to that service. Third-party sites control their own processing, and we encourage you to review their privacy notices.
How and why we use personal information
- Consent: optional Analytics cookies and related measurement where consent is required.
- Legitimate interests: operating and securing the website, preventing spam and abuse, diagnosing technical issues, understanding aggregate website performance, responding to ordinary inquiries, and maintaining appropriate records, balanced against visitor privacy.

- Legal obligations and legal claims: complying with applicable law and establishing, exercising, or defending legal rights when necessary.
We do not sell personal information. We do not use contact-form information for unrelated marketing, and we do not conduct solely automated decision-making that has legal or similarly significant effects on visitors.
Service providers and disclosures
We disclose information only as reasonably necessary to operate the website or comply with law. Relevant recipients may include NameHero for website and email hosting; Google for Analytics, Search Console, and Gmail; CookieYes for consent-management functionality; WPForms and GoSMTP as WordPress software used to process forms and email delivery; Amazon when you follow an affiliate link; security, technical-support, and professional advisers when needed; and public authorities when disclosure is legally required.
Some providers operate in the United States or other countries outside the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland. Where applicable law requires it, international transfers should be protected through an adequacy decision, an approved data-transfer framework, standard contractual clauses, or another lawful safeguard made available by the relevant provider.
Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as needed for the purpose for which it was collected, including security, troubleshooting, correspondence, and legal requirements. GoSMTP delivery logs are retained for 30 days. Consent preferences remain until they expire, are cleared, or you change them. Hosting and security logs are kept according to operational and security needs and the hosting provider’s retention practices. Analytics information is retained according to the retention settings in the applicable Google Analytics property. Information required for legal claims or compliance may be kept longer where necessary.
Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including encrypted website connections and authenticated email delivery. No online service or transmission method is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to be informed; request access to or a copy of your personal information; correct inaccurate information; request deletion; restrict or object to processing; receive portable data where applicable; and withdraw consent at any time. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with the data-protection authority where you live, work, or believe an infringement occurred.
To exercise a right, email kitchenaffliction@gmail.com. Please describe your request clearly. We may need to verify your identity before disclosing or deleting information. We will respond within the period required by applicable law, normally within one month for GDPR requests.
Children’s privacy
This website is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact us so we can review and delete it as appropriate.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when website features, service providers, or legal requirements change. The “Last updated” date will identify the current version. Material changes will be highlighted where appropriate.
