Kitchen Affliction grew out of a very ordinary problem: a busy family had to eat, takeout couldn’t be the answer every night, and neither of us knew much about cooking.
So we learned the same way most home cooks do. One dinner, one mistake, and one “that almost worked” at a time. Somewhere along the way, cooking stopped being a chore and became something we genuinely loved doing.
Now we share the recipes, techniques, and hard-won lessons that made our own kitchen better.

Why Kitchen Affliction exists
When our family grew, we found ourselves searching for dinner ideas constantly. There were plenty of recipe sites, but too many buried the useful information under endless distractions, vague directions, or recipes that simply did not deliver.
We started adapting recipes, experimenting with flavors, and writing down what actually worked. Some favorites came from our own kitchen, others began with family and friends and evolved over years of cooking them our way.
Kitchen Affliction is where those recipes live now. The goal is not merely to hand you an ingredient list. We want to explain what matters, warn you about the parts that can go sideways, and help you become a more confident cook along the way.

We’ve made plenty of mistakes. We’ll tell you what we learned so you don’t have to repeat them.
A little more about Jeff
I spent a lot of my late twenties and early thirties traveling around the country for work. The landmarks were interesting and the people were memorable, but if I am honest, I judged every new city entirely by its food.
The meals I discovered while traveling stayed with me. Cooking became a way to bring some of those memories home, recreate flavors I missed, and figure out how to make them work for an everyday family dinner. That curiosity still drives the recipes on Kitchen Affliction.
I am not interested in pretending every meal emerges from the kitchen looking perfect. I care about making food that tastes great, explaining it clearly, and showing you how to get there yourself.

A little more about Michelle
Michelle is the resident baker around here. Cakes, cupcakes, and cookies are her specialties, but her real talent comes out when it is time to decorate. She can turn a simple cake into something almost too beautiful to cut. Almost.
When she is not baking, Michelle loves spending time at the beach and learning everything she can about great white sharks. Shark Week is required viewing in our house, and she is always ready to tell you why great whites are far more fascinating than frightening.
When the oven is off and Shark Week is not on, Michelle is usually keeping up with the kids or digging around in our garden, where we grow an assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Food and photography
Food photography became part of the obsession along the way. The dishes shown throughout Kitchen Affliction are the food we actually cook, and the original food photographs on the site are my own.
The goal is to make the food look as good as it tastes without disguising what you can realistically make in your own kitchen.
